Hello, all!

I apologize for not updating recently! I’ve been pretty busy with finals, spring break, and then the new quarter at school. It’s been a weirdly packed couple of weeks >_<

Last weekend was Deltopia, a festival that rose from the ashes of the infamous Floatopia. Floatopia was a huge party on the beaches of Isla Vista that was shut down a few years ago due to the mass amounts of outsiders traveling from large distances to party on our beaches. Unfortunately, this resulted in unprecedented levels of garbage, arrests, and personal safety issues (I’ve heard a couple of stories about people trying to jump off of houses and onto trampolines and jumpy castles). Deltopia, a much tamer and local version of Floatopia, was an amazing sight. Del Playa, the road that parallels the beach in Isla Vista, turned into a street party with DJs, water ballon fights, and general mayhem.

On a more educational note, UCSB brought in the beautiful Exxopolis Luminarium last weekend for a free viewing to UCSB students. A Luminarium is a giant inflatable dome-like structure that uses the sun to create glowing rooms. There are several chambers in it and, as you can see in the photos above, the effect is breathtaking. There are a few of them with a different design and layout, and the one that came to our school is called the Exxopolis. I think that they’re fascinating and I definitely recommend that you look it up (there’s a link for it at the end of this paragraph). Unfortunately, the iPhone camera doesn’t quite do it justice. We went right before going to see Deltopia, so I should probably mention that my friend, Jordan, is in a bathing suit (not just her undies!). And, as a final disclaimer, the bottom photo isn’t one of my own, but rather from the Exxopolis’ Architects of Air website. There’s more information about it here.

Thursday, March 14th

UCSB’s Health & Wellness group (a committee of volunteers and professionals that encourage the physical/mental health of students) puts on events during the year. As it’s dead week, or the week right before finals, they had a lot of dogs come out for a free petting session! Personally, the pug was my favorite :) After petting some pooches, I found a giant Jenga game and a booth of free coffee. It’s been a great day!

Well… Back to studying. Wish me luck with finals!

Hello!

It’s been an eventful past few days :) I stood up on skates for roller derby for the first time, I’m getting ready to turn 18 tomorrow, and I just got new bangs! My best friend, Sarah, comes on the train on Friday to visit me for the weekend and I’m going to go out to dinner with her and my lovely future roommate, Sydney. I also have a few job interviews coming up in the next week, so wish me luck!

I hope you guys all enjoyed your Valentine’s day and ate your weight in sweets :D After all, it’s a well known fact that candy does not contain calories on holidays.

Yesterday I biked around downtown Santa Barbara and wandered around a few adorable back streets. I found a few small restaurants I’d love to visit and saw some breathtakingly beautiful sakura trees. Unfortunately, this photo really doesn’t do the view any justice! The streets are lined with blossoms and it’s absolutely gorgeous. I love Santa Barbara :)

Hello, folks!

Today I went to the Santa Barbara local roller derby team’s (aka, the Mission City Brawlin’ Betties) orientation. It was a lot of fun to meet other people who are interested and playing the sport and I think I’m really gonna learn to play and hopefully become part of the team! Wish me luck :)

Since going vegan this past Monday, I’ve been dying for a sweet snack that I can munch on. Luckily, I found out that the local cupcake joint, Crushcakes Cafe, does vegan/gluten free cupcakes on request! I’m not sure what’s in them (pixie dust and clouds?), but whatever they use to concoct these treats, they’re delicious! This here is a red velvet and I couldn’t even tell it was vegan. I definitely plan on stopping by more often :) (just for their wifi, of course).

Ciao, la mia famiglia!

Today I went to State Street and Stearn Wharf pier with friends :) We watched the new movie, Hansel and Gretel, which I loved. It’s definitely one of those movies that makes the corniest jokes and exaggerates all the fighting, but who can resist steampunk weapons and modified fairy tales? Especially when the main characters are attractive and sassy and can dish/take more of a beating than physically possible.

Ciao all!

It’s been a while since I’ve updated! I hope you guys had a lovely Christmas and New Years. I can’t believe it’s already 2013! Time has flown by by.

Unlike the usual drive down to school, I decided to take a pit stop along the way in San Luis Obispo. It was a blast! Went to the farmer’s market, joined a meme-themed bike ride through downtown (if you don’t know what a meme is, Wikipedia shall come to the rescue), and finished off the night with WALL-E. Had breakfast at a beautiful cafe, went to a soda store in the morning, and visited the wall of gum. And now I’m heading home to Santa Barbara on the train! I can’t wait to visit again :)

I’m gonna enjoy the view, so I’ll write more later.

I saw this on my way to class this morning and couldn’t help but stop and take a picture. It has been “pouring” out here (SoCal terms for sprinkling) and I haven’t enjoyed the weather more! Everything is so green and vibrant; even the air smells fresh.

Finals are coming up next week and I’ve already started studying. Procrastination, thy evil wench, shan’t keep me under her spell! Then again, I am updating my blog at 12:50 am when I should be reading, so maybe she’s already got me in her tight grasp. Oops.

Well, I should go to bed!

Hola, all! I hope you’re having a lovely day :) I apologize for not updating in a while - I’ve had a rather intense week with finals and am still recovering from the brain marathon.

Today I’m coming back home on the train! We just stopped off in SLO and I have six more hours to go until Ventura. It’s pretty foggy out, but the view has been gorgeous.

I’m going to nap, so I’ll be off.
